Which school chess groups are there, and who may join? 26
More about this list
Who may play in a school’s chess group or team? Only that school’s own pupils: the working groups and courses belong to the school day or the all-day programme, the teams play for their school, and nobody from outside can drop in. They are listed because they show where children meet chess, from the school championships of Lippe and the districts to the state final of North Rhine-Westphalia in Hamm; the Pelizaeus-Gymnasium Paderborn and the Max-Planck-Gymnasium Bielefeld also reached the German school chess championships.
Gymnasien in Detmold, Lage, Horn-Bad Meinberg, Petershagen and Paderborn hold their groups in the lunch break or the afternoon, and teams from Gymnasien in Bielefeld, Gütersloh, Lemgo, Höxter, Steinheim, Minden and Espelkamp played the state final, as did primary schools in Paderborn and Horn. Primary schools such as the Kusselberg-Schule and the Grundschule Heiligenkirchen in Detmold, the Lindenschule in Halle, the Josefschule in Gütersloh, St. Walburga in Neuenheerse and the Bültmannshofschule in Bielefeld offer chess in lessons or in the afternoon, and the Olof-Palme-Gesamtschule in Hiddenhausen holds tournaments of its own. A child who wants to play beyond school will find youth training at the clubs.
